Scholarships & Student Support
Gifts to support scholarships and other funding for students are meaningful for donors and life-changing for students pursuing their dreams at UMW.
Note for Students: please visit our scholarship directory to browse and apply for hundreds of donor-funded scholarships.
With a gift of $25,000 or more, a donor may establish a named endowed scholarship. This gift can be made outright, pledged over two to five years, or given through a donor’s will
As a gift to the endowment, your funds are carefully invested so that a portion of the interest they earn funds the scholarship in perpetuity.
Please note: The Office of Financial Aid coordinates the application and selection process for scholarship recipients.
Create a named endowment fund
Your gift of $25,000 or more can also enhance academic offerings or programs, or support museums or specialized centers on campus—all supporting the student experience.
Establish a named award
Support to create financial awards allows for research opportunities and acknowledges scholarly achievement.
The Office of Advancement can explain naming and customized giving options to guide you through the process. Contact us by email or at (540) 654-1024 for more information.
The Washington & Alvey Scholars Program is one of the most prestigious awards at Mary Washington. These comprehensive (“full ride”) scholarships help attract and reward high-performing students with exceptional academic credentials. Scholars are selected from incoming freshmen accepted into UMW’s Honors program. Washington Scholarships support in-state students, while Alvey Scholarships are awarded to out-of-state students.
Donors can establish new named scholarships within the program. Named Washington Scholarship endowments require a minimum gift of $1,000,000; named Alvey Scholarships require a minimum gift of $1,500,000.
Note for Students: Please contact the Admissions Office for information about being considered for one of these scholarships.
